We had the Macarena and "GIRL POWER!" (aka Spice Girls). If two middle-aged Espagnol-speaking men came on the scene now, singing some extremely repetitive song with girls dancing an extremely repetitive dance in flaming neon colors, do you think that would work?
The same with a group of five completely random English women wearing flaming neon spandex mini-skirts and boots five stories tall. It just wouldn't work now.
Or maybe that's just my point of view. I mean, William Hung made it. Heck, he's in Hong Kong right now, taping some movie he's supposed to star in (or at least have a supporting part).
